Bentley Torcal EV Offers 375 Miles of Range

Bentley has entered the battery-electric market with the Torcal, a five-meter luxury SUV offering up to 888 PS (876 hp) and as much as 375 miles (600 km) of WLTP range. The new model uses a 113 kWh battery and 800-volt architecture, with DC fast charging rated at up to 400 kW.

Torcal Adds a Fourth Model Line to Bentley

The Torcal joins the Continental GT, Flying Spur and Bentayga as Bentley’s fourth model family. It is also the company’s first production vehicle powered entirely by electricity after years of discussing plans for a battery-electric model.

Bentley says the SUV was designed and engineered in Crewe, England, where it will also be manufactured. At around five meters long, it becomes the shortest four-door vehicle in Bentley’s current range. Cargo capacity is listed at 460 liters behind the rear seats, supplemented by a 90-liter front storage compartment.

Its proportions combine a long wheelbase with relatively short overhangs. The front introduces an illuminated diamond-pattern panel, while the Torcal is also the first production model to use Bentley’s redesigned badge.

Two Versions Offer Up to 876 Horsepower

Bentley will offer the electric SUV in standard Torcal and higher-performance Torcal S forms. Both use a dual-motor all-wheel-drive layout with one permanent-magnet synchronous motor at each axle and a locking rear differential.

The regular Torcal produces 821 PS (810 hp) and 1,194 Nm (881 lb-ft) of torque. Bentley lists a 3.3-second 0–60 mph time and a maximum speed of 155 mph.

The Torcal S increases output to 888 PS (876 hp) and can deliver 1,350 Nm (996 lb-ft) with Launch Control. Its claimed 0–60 mph time falls to 2.8 seconds, while top speed rises to 162 mph.

Visual differences include darker exterior trim, a rear diffuser, darkened taillights and red brake calipers. The S receives 22-inch wheels as standard, compared with 21-inch wheels on the regular version.

113 kWh Battery Supports 400 kW Charging

Both Torcal variants use the same 113 kWh usable battery, consisting of 192 lithium-ion pouch cells. The electrical system operates at 800 volts, supporting high-power DC charging.

Maximum driving range is listed at 375 miles (600 km) under the WLTP cycle. An EPA range estimate has not yet been announced, so U.S. buyers do not yet have an official figure based on the American test procedure.

Bentley quotes peak DC fast charging at 400 kW. Its launch information lists a 10% to 80% charging time of 16 minutes, although another section describes the same charging window as taking slightly less than 20 minutes. Additional technical information will be needed to clarify the difference.

The company also says approximately 100 miles of range can be added in seven minutes under suitable charging conditions. The battery carries a 10-year or 100,000-mile warranty.

Active Chassis and New Cabin Technology Arrive

The Torcal introduces fully active suspension to a Bentley production vehicle. Individual control at each wheel allows the system to manage body movement without conventional anti-roll bars. Standard rear-wheel steering helps reduce the turning circle to 11.1 meters.

Bentley has also developed a configurable artificial driving soundtrack. Rather than directly recreating a conventional combustion engine, the system incorporates recordings of drums, viola and bass guitar and changes according to vehicle speed and requested torque. Drivers can switch the sound off.

Inside, the Torcal combines curved OLED displays with physical controls on the steering wheel and center console. Technology includes an augmented-reality head-up display, facial recognition for driver profiles and selectable cabin modes that coordinate climate, lighting, audio and screen settings.

Material choices include a newly developed 100% Merino wool automotive textile produced with British manufacturer Fox Brothers. Bentley also uses an Ombré Walnut finish made partly from walnut remnants and recycled paper.

Other available equipment includes powered doors, switchable roof glass, remote parking functions and an optional 1,780-watt, 28-speaker Naim audio system. Bentley says 25 cameras, radar units and other sensors support the vehicle’s driver-assistance functions.

Despite revealing detailed specifications, Bentley has not yet provided a retail price or confirmed when customer deliveries of the Torcal will begin.
