Ford has also said the Fathom will provide more cabin space than a Toyota RAV4, giving it a different practical proposition from compact passenger EVs at similar prices.
Standard Equipment Includes a Frunk and V2X Charging
Every Fathom is expected to receive a large high-resolution infotainment display with integrated Apple Maps. The navigation system will support EV-specific trip planning, including charger recommendations, live traffic information and charging stops along a planned route.
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will also be supported.
Ford plans to make every version compatible with BlueCruise, its hands-free highway driving system. Entry-level trucks will contain the necessary hardware, although activating BlueCruise will require an additional payment.
Other standard features will include a digital key, front storage compartment and bidirectional charging capability. The latter will allow energy stored in the truck's battery to be supplied externally when paired with compatible equipment.
Range and Charging Details Remain Unconfirmed
Several important specifications have not yet been released. Ford has not disclosed the Fathom's battery capacity, EPA range or DC fast-charging performance.
The announced starting price applies to a standard-range version, indicating that additional battery configurations are likely. Hart acknowledged that some buyers expect around 300 miles of driving range, while stopping short of confirming whether a Fathom configuration will meet that figure.
Ford plans to reveal additional specifications closer to launch.
The company has confirmed that the truck will use prismatic lithium-iron-phosphate batteries manufactured in Michigan. The cells will come from Ford's $3 billion BlueOval Battery Park Michigan, which uses battery technology licensed from CATL.
Ford Plans a New Manufacturing Process
Vehicle assembly will take place in Louisville, Kentucky, where Ford intends to use its new "assembly tree" production method developed for the Universal EV Platform.
Lower manufacturing costs will be essential if Ford intends to sell the Fathom profitably below $30,000. The project therefore combines a new vehicle architecture, domestic battery manufacturing and a redesigned production system rather than simply lowering the price of an existing EV.
Ford also does not expect the electric pickup to directly replace the similarly priced Maverick Hybrid. Hart described the Fathom as a technology-focused lifestyle vehicle aimed at customers who value adaptability and digital features rather than primarily using their truck for work.
